Have rented before, but ex-husband withheld three months’ rent & got us kicked out. Had no idea this happened til was served with eviction notice. Little wonder it’s one of the reasons why I divorced him. Moved to apartment, landlord is currently breaking the law by trying to lock me out of the apartment & gave 30 day’s eviction notice. Didn’t give a reason why I’m not wanted here. Looking for a house, but most require landlord references of which impacted me negatively, & credit checks. Divorce destroyed my credit, & many landlords here don’t give a rat’s tail about it. They refuse to consider the divorce ramifications. How to start over with clean slate? In 30 days, I & my children’ll be on the streets cuz I’ve been denied from renting most houses/apartments, & HUD program turned me down too because of my ex-husband ***** ups with the previous house. Limited income, & will lose kids if issue not resolved. Someone help me, please! Anyone here a landlord I can work with?
I’ve looked through the divorce papers, and there is no mention of my ex-husband’s actions with the previous house. My ex filed for divorce before I had a chance to do it, so only his reasons for divorce is documented. How do I prove my reasons? All the landlords in town already rejected my application, and they take my credit into consideration regardless of the fact that divorce destroyed it. And yes, they all do require only landlord references. They told me they refuse to accept any other references. I’m royally stuck, and if I do get a court order of eviction, then I have to live in a shelter in Springfield, and I don’t want to be homeless!
